Giuseppe Patota is full professor of Italian Linguistics at the University of Siena.
He is a corresponding member of Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, a national member of Accademia della Crusca and Accademia dell'Arcadia. He is in the board of directors of “I Lincei per la Scuola” Foundation, in the scientific committe of the “Natalino Sapegno Foundation”, and he is a member of the “Premio Strega” jury.
He is the director of a series published by Accademia della Crusca ("Grammatiche e lessici"), and a member of the editorial and scientific boards of major academic journals («Studi di lessicografia italiana», «Studi Linguistici Italiani», «Bollettino di Italianistica», «Carte di viaggio » and «Galilaeana»).
His publications amount to one hundred and eighty. His research activity focusses on the fourteenth, sixteenth-, eighteenth-, and nineteenth-century Italian literary language, the scientific Italian of Galileo Galilei, Italian historical syntax, the history of Italian lexicography and grammar, and Italian language teaching to native and non-native speakers. Some of his books have been translated and published in France and Japan.
