Elena V. Velkovska is Associate Professor of Ancient Christian Literature and Greek Palaeography at DFCLAM. She trained at the University of Sofia (Bulgaria), the Institute of Literature at the Academy of Sciences in Moscow and the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome. She has taught History of Byzantine Liturgy and Comparative Liturgy at the Antonianum Athenaeum, the Pontifical Oriental Institute and the Athenaeum of S. Anselmo in Rome. She has participated in cataloguing projects of Greek microfilms and manuscripts in Sofia and Columbus, Ohio (USA). She has taught courses in the History of Byzantine Liturgy and Greek Palaeography at Yale and Ann Arbor University. She is a founding member, vice-president and honorary president of the Societas Orientalium Liturgiarum, an international association for the study of Eastern liturgies.
Her academic interests concern the Greek and Slavic Middle Ages, specifically the palaeographic study of Greek manuscripts, the history of Byzantine liturgy and the ecdotics of Greek and Slavic liturgical texts.
