Full Professor of Contemporary History. Graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences “Cesare Alfieri” of Florence (1991), he earned his Ph.D. in History of European Society at the University of Pisa in 1997. From 1998 to 2004 temporary research fellow (assegnista di ricerca) at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Siena. From 2005 to 2015 Researcher in Contemporary History at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Siena.
Member of the Italian Society for the Study of Contemporary History (SISSCO) and the Italian Society for the Study of Sports History.
Vice president of the "Filippo Turati" Foundation for Historical Studies in Florence.
Scientific coordinator of the Centre for Studies on the Risk Society and on the Management of the Territory (Centro Studi sulla Società del Rischio e sulla Gestione del Territorio - Sorget).
Member of the Editorial Board of "Ricerche Storiche" Journal and of the online History and Historiography Journal "Storia e Futuro".
Research interests include: history of Welfare State policies in Italy and in Europe, history of disasters, history of emotions and collective insecurity in the contemporary age and history of sport.

Collective fears and social insecurity in Europe since the Second World War.
Football Holiganism in Italy and Europe since late 1960s.
