I am a philosopher, with an interest in natural languages. I study them as systems that are both perfect, in that they include a logic and support a vast array of inferential schemes, and unsettled at the same time, due to their unceasing openness to use and contingency. Recent themes in my research include the formal conditions for senseful expression and the relantionship between natural logic and praxis.
Primarily I work in analytic philosophy and formal linguistics, yet I try to make a point of learning from colleagues and authors working within different frameworks. Additionally, I have an interest in the history of philosophy and of linguistics. I also engage in a personal reflection on the public and cultural dimension of language.
In Siena, I coordinate the Univ. Siena (Language and Mind) and Univ. Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (Philosophie, parcours logique et philosophie des sciences) Double Master Degree program. Furthermore, I hold an executive position in the Interuniversity Center for Cognitive Studies of Language (CISCL), jointly established by the Univ. Siena and the Univ. Milano-Bicocca. I am also a member of the PhD program in Social Sciences and Humanities, where I teach courses on philosophy of language and logic.
Prior to joining Siena, I served as a senior researcher at the Berlin Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft (ZAS) and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. I hold or have held fellowships with several international institutions, including the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung and the J. William Fulbright Foundation. Additionally, I am a member of the Italian chapter of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Association.
