Fiammetta Papi (Viareggio, 1987) is Associate Professor of Italian Linguistics at the University of Siena (since 2021).
In 2013 she received her PhD from the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, with a two-volume thesis on the critical edition and linguistic commentary of the oldest Italian volgarizzamento of Giles of Rome De regimine principum (70/70 cum laude). She then became a Postdoctoral Researcher at the same Scuola Normale Superiore (2015/16) and subsequently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Università per Stranieri di Siena (2017/18).
In 2016, she was a “Frances A. Yates” Postdoctoral Fellow at the Warburg Institute in London, where she had already been a Visiting Fellow in 2014.
She was then a Post-doctoral fellow at the Accademia della Crusca (2016/17). As a contributor to a joint project of the Accademia della Crusca and the CNR Institute Opera del Vocabolario Italiano (Vocabolario Dantesco), she was part of the TLIO editorial staff (2016/17).
From 2014 to 2017, she was Professor of Italian Linguistics at the Scuola Superiore per Mediatori Linguistici in Pisa.
In 2017, she was awarded the Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale (ASN), Professore Associato (=Associate Professor), 10/F3, “Linguistica e Filologia italiana”.
In 2018, she won the competition for RTD/B at the University of Siena, and she was then promoted to Associate Professor in 2021.
In 2023, she was awarded the Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale (ASN), Professore Ordinario (=Full Professor), 10/F3, “Linguistica e Filologia italiana”.
Since 2019, she has been a member of the Board of Lecturers of the International PhD in Philology and Criticism (Università di Siena).
Since 2020, she has been on Academic Review Board of Pacini Editore’s “Strumenti di Filologia e Critica” series.
Since 2020, she has been an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Associazione per la Storia della lingua italiana (ASLI).
She is also affiliated with ISHR (International Society for the History of Rhetoric); RSA (Renaissance Society of America); SFLI (Società dei Filologi della Letteratura Italiana).
Main research interests: History of the Italian Language, Italian Linguistics (with special attention to syntax and lexicon), Italian Philogy, Dante’s Language, Boccaccio’s Language, Giacomo Puccini’s Language, History of Rhetoric in the Italian Middle Ages, History of Courtesy in the Italian literature.
