Francesca Mencacci studied at the University of Pisa, where she also obtained a PhD in Greek and Latin Philology. At the University of Siena she teaches Latin literature as an associate professor.
In addition to having participated in numerous Italian research programs, she has carried out research and teaching stays at several foreign institutions: the University of Heidelberg as a Daad scholarship holder, the University of Dresden, the Akad. der Wissenschaften in Mainz. She has taken part as invited speaker at conferences in Italy and abroad and has held lessons at Italian and foreign universities and institutions.
For the Faculty of Letters of the University of Siena she was part of the board of directors of the Master "Gender studies, teaching practices and equal opportunities" and of the teaching body of the Doctoral School in "Anthropology of the Ancient World" based in Siena and of the Doctoral School in "Sciences of Antiquity and Archaeology", based in Pisa.
Her research interests focus on linguistic and anthropological themes. She has published studies on Latin linguistics (lexicology and pragmatics), and on different aspects of Roman culture (kinship, identity, gender)
