BERTI FABIO

Presentation

Fabio Berti is Full Professor of General Sociology at the Department of Social, Political and Cognitive Sciences of the University of Siena, where he chairs the Master’s Degree Programme in Social Sustainability and Welfare Management.

His teaching and research focus on social inequalities, migration dynamics, food poverty, and the social sustainability of local communities and territories. In recent years, his research has also expanded to labour exploitation in agriculture and the role of migrant workers in the wine industry.

Throughout his academic career, he has held several positions of university responsibility, including serving as the Rector’s Delegate for student orientation and as a member of the Academic Senate. He has also served on prestigious national and international scientific committees and was recently appointed to the Scientific Committee of the Qualivita Foundation. As a visiting professor, he has lectured at universities in Europe and North America and has taken part, and continues to take part, in academic conferences and public engagement activities in Italy and in various international contexts.

The author of numerous publications, he combines his academic work with a strong commitment to organising conferences and promoting action-research projects aimed at fostering innovation in local and regional policies.

He believes in a form of research that does not merely fill the pages of books, but can be useful to people and society and, in some way, contribute to changing the world.
