BINI LUCA

Luca
Bini
Professore Ordinario

Presentation

He is currently Full Professor of Biochemistry and Proteome Sciences and Vice-Director of the Department of Life Sciences, University of Siena, Italy.

Since 30 years, he is active in the global approach to the study of proteins. He is internationally well known as a contributor to the foundation of proteome science. Indeed, he is one of the organizers, together with Prof. D. Hochstarsser and Prof. J.-C. Sanchez (University of Geneva) and Prof. V. Pallini (University of Siena), of all the 10 editions of the well known Siena Meeting entitled “FROM GENOME TO PROTEOME”, where, during the first edition in 1994, the term proteome was introduced for the first time by Mark Wilkins (Macquarie University, Sydney).

He is one of the founders of the European Proteomics Association as well as of the Italian Proteomics Association and he is on the editorial boards of several leading proteomics journals.

The main research activities are focused on proteome analysis of clinical specimens such as cells, biopsies and body fluids in different physio-pathological conditions as well as in the study of the immune-response in infectious diseases and neurodegenerative pathologies. He is also interested in applying proteomics to model organisms, plants and non human samples.
